For everyone that’s ever dreamed for a zero-care plant that will live forever, craft-based designer and Plant Life Balance frond Kitiya Palaskas has put together a special DIY project together just for you!
This felt-foliaged hanging plant is the perfect addition to your living indoor jungle, particularly if you’ve got an empty corner or shelf that nothing seems to thrive in.
To follow along with Kitiya as she puts together the plant, watch the video below. If you’re more of a reader than a watcher, we’ve jotted down the instructions, too.
So if you know your way around a glue gun, gather your materials and let’s get crafting!
YOU WILL NEED:
- An old planter pot
- Assorted green felt
- Brown felt
- A long strip of cardboard
- Cardboard leaf shapes in a varying sizes
- A circle of cardboard with a hole in the middle that fits snuggly in the pot
- Gardening wire
- A hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Pencil
- A green marker
- Wire cutters
HOW TO MAKE IT:
- Use the cardboard leaf shapes as templates to trace and cut a variety of different sized leaves from felt.
- Add some textures to the leaves with the green marker.
- Use the cardboard circle to trace and cut a circle from the brown felt. Use a hot glue gun to stick these together.
- Poke a hole through the brown felt, aligned with the hole in the cardboard circle.
- Fold and glue the long strip of cardboard into a triangular tube that fits inside the pot. Use the hot glue gun to stick this in.
- Use the hot glue gun to stick the circle down onto the top of the triangular tube.
- Use the wire cutters to cut 5-7 pieces of gardening wire.
- To create stems, glue the leaves at different angles along each piece of wire, leaving about 10cm wire at the ends.
And voila! A felt foliage masterpiece to add to your jungle collection.
